Okay girls, so I wanted to blog about his book that I read about a month ago. It's a really short story and an easy read, but it's nothing like the books we've been blogging about. Although there is a short love story that goes along with the book, it is mainly about the life of a Bin Laden women. It's a true story of Osama Bin Ladens sister in-law, Carmen Bin Ladin. Basically it is Carmen's life story of what it was like being a part of the Bin Ladin family before 9/11 happened. It is really interesting and eye opening the reality of the whole thing. It makes me appreciate my up bringing and my life here in America. It does not really go into details about what happened on 9/11 or even to much about Osama, however it gives you insight into what life is like for Islamic women and how behind they are compared to America.  I know it may sound boring but it is really good and like I said before, it's a quick read.

Nights in Rodanthe

howdy guys. so i finally finished this 200 page book. i don' tknow why it took my 5 days to read something i could have read in 1 but it did...and not because it wasn't good...because it was great! i have not seen the movie, but i have to say something so cliche but true...the book is probably better. only because there is not a whole lot of dialogue...anyway, what it's about...Adrienne and Paul are in the more adult years of their lives (like 48 and 60ish). both divorced and meet eachother in Rodanthe. Adrienne is watching an Inn for her friend and Paul is the lone customer staying there. it is about their few nights together at the Inn and like many of Sparks' other books...it's a tear jerker...but it is a sweet sweet story, and a great read.

A Great and Terrible Beauty

Ok girls, I mentioned this book when you came to Texas but now I am on the second one in the series "Rebel's Angels". JD I think you will really love these books! They are so Harry Potter-esque. Gemma Doyle, sixteen and proud, must leave the warmth of her childhood home in India for the rigid Spence Academy, a cold finishing school outside of London, followed by a stranger who bears puzzling warnings. Using her sharp tongue and agile mind, she navigates the stormy seas of friendship with high-born daughters and her roommate, a plain scholarship case. As Gemma discovers that her mother's death may have an otherworldly cause, and that she herself may have innate powers, Gemma is forced to face her own frightening, yet exciting destiny . . . if only she can believe in it. There is also a quasi-love interest in the story named Kartik who is a part of a brotherhood called the Rakshana, and his job is to track Gemma and keep her from using her powers. So there is a "forbdden romance" element in the story as well. The story is set in the Victorian Age, and it has a gothic feel to it, and it is AMAZING!!! You guys pick it up at the local library! Or I am pretty sure they sell the first two books in paper back.

So I just finished this book that I started when we all met in Texas called The Queen's Fool. It took me that long because some parts of the book drag on a bit, however it turned out to be a really good book. 

The book takes place in 1553 and is about a young Jewish girl named Hannah who is forced to flee Spain in hopes of surviving and starting a new life in England. Hannah and her father are forced to practice their Jewish religion in secrecy because it is forbidden to practice any other religion other then Christianity, those who are caught are burned on the steak. Hannah is no ordinary refugee she has the gift to foresee the future. She is discovered by Robert Dudley, the son of King Edward's protector and he brings Hannah to court as a "holy fool" for Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth.

Basically she begins working as a spy, first for Dudley then for Queen Mary. She is endangered by the laws against heresy, treason and witchcraft. She is suppose to marry in wedlock but falls in love with her master and she is then forced to choose between a safe life of commoner and the dangerous intrigues of the royal family. 

Although there are some parts that I thought could have been cut out because it dragged on, the book and story-line are really good. It is a interesting story about our history in the 1500's and also a very good love story.

Something New

this book was absolutely fantastic. y'all know that it is in Darcy's POV...and i think it is hilarious that every person says they are turned off from that in the beginning because of how dreadful she is as a character in Something Borrowed. well, needless to say, this is the end to the Darcy/Rachel/Dex saga...and i loved it. can't wait till y'all read it so we can talk!

REVIEW: Baby Proof - Emily Giffin

So I decided to keep with the Emily Giffin theme and got one of her other books Baby Proof. It is a separate story from Something Borrowed and Something Blue.

As all Emily Giffin's novels do, this one is also set in New York, with their high achieving main characters. Baby Proof is about this woman named Claudia, she is an editor for a big publishing firm. All her life she has never wanted to be a mother. She likes kids just fine but never had that maternal instinct that most girls have growing up when they think what their own kids will be like. She liked the role of Cool Aunt. Well she goes on a blind date with Ben, an architect for the city. He wants all the same things in life that she does. And he too, doesn't want kids. They get married and have a great marriage. They're completely compatible, until one of them has a change of heart and decides that they actually do want to have kids.

Now for me.. being one of those girls that wants kids.. desperately.. couldn't really find common ground with Claudia. I couldn't find any part of myself in her which is what makes it easier to read stories. And is probably the reason why it took me a week to read it. The story starts out a little slow at first but about 1/3 of the way into the book it begins to pick up and find its stride in the plot.

It is actually a good book. It was just a little difficult for me to become engaged in the characters. I personally identified more with Claudia's sister Daphne and her best friend Jess.

But, I'm looking forward to getting Something Blue in the mail from JD so I can see Darcy's side of things. I loved Something Borrowed a lot!
